#OtakiThreads - The christening of Maddison & Lilly Kiriona

The Christening of Maddison & Lilly Kiriona
Sunday, June 1st, 2014

On a bright autumn morning, at a little after 11.00am, the parents, godparents, family and friends of Maddison and Lilly Kiriona entered Rangiatea Church in Otaki for their baptism. Kahira Rau, minister of the church, and relation to the children, carried out the service.
“Their great, great grandmother is my aunty or put another way, she was first cousin to my mother.”
As the ceremony occurs, each child is baptized with holy water. At Rangiatea, the children are held over the font while water is poured over the heads, or gently applied, as in the case of Maddison and Lilly. The following words are then spoken. “ I baptize you in the name of The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.”

By being baptized, Maddison and Lilly were being welcomed into the family of Christ, which acknowledges their parents Christain beliefs and their desire to raise the two children in a Christian manner.
