During the summer months on a Thursday morning near the Otaki library, you will find the seasonal stall. This is run by a not for profit group who donate their time. They buy in your excess garden produce at 85% of what they sell it for.
The group is called the Sustainable Food Group and their mission is to encourage people to grow their own food in their back gardens. They have a variety of initiatives from selling vegetable seeds cheaply, to organising edible garden visits (The group is always looking for people who are willing to host garden visits. You don’t have to have a huge garden, just one that has an emphasis on growing food) and also the occasional workshop.
Everyone is welcome to join in.
The group is very informal, you do not need to register to sell your garden excess, just turn up with it at 10.30am. The stall is open to sell at 11.00am. You never can tell what is going to be on the stall, silverbeet, tomatoes, figs, peaches, lemons or eggs.
STALL TIMES
There is a stall on the 11th & 18th April, none on Anzac day then the last for the year on the 2nd May 2013. To read more about the Sustainable Food Group click here.
